Buddhism is practiced many different ways all over the world. Vajrayana is commonly called Tibetan Buddhism as it was popularized in Tibet. It follows the teachings of the Buddha while maintaining the aspiration to benefit all beings.
The meditation of Vajrasattva ("Indestructibly Purity") is an important practice in Vajrayana. It purifies the mind, body, and karmas while developing mental strength and creativity. Like many Buddhist practices it utilizes the power of mantra, visualization, and conceptualization. We practice together in a guided format, building on our visualization and understanding each week.
We also perform monthly sang puja, a ritual incense offering. This practice generates merit and purifies the mindstream. It is a great opportunity to enjoy the power of chanting in a group and learn more about Buddhist ritual practice.
I have lived in Grand Forks since 2018 where I work part-time at the Grand Forks Public Library. I am also a visual artist; my works have exhibited in Toronto, Vancouver, Coquitlam, and locally at Gallery 2. I have facilitated art workshops for all ages, including collage, art history, and painting. For more information about my artwork check out www.actualpaint.com

In the old Tibet, Buddhists lay practitioners are called Ngakpas. Ngakpas have a family and household, have a job and integrate Buddhism into their daily lives. On the one hand, this is easier because Ngakpas do not have to follow the same extensive and complex vows as nuns and monks. On the other hand, it is also more difficult because there is no clear, regulated monastic everyday life, which makes it easier to follow the Buddhist principles and live accordingly. Ngakde is just the name for a community of Ngakpas.
The yogas of the Ngakpas are designed to meet the needs of all who wish to practice the Dharma, regardless of age, education, gender, or social standing. This is why these practices are among the better known Buddhist practices in Western society today.
